The Skunk and the Cow

A skunk and a cow met on Halloween night.

“Oh hi there, skunk! You gave me quite a fright!”

“You were right to be afraid!” said the skunk to the cow.

“I'm running from a ghost whose shriek is quite loud!”

The cow spoke up and made a boisterous boast:

“Have no fear, skunk, for I will catch that ghost!”

“I'm a bona fide, certified ghost hunting tracker.

I'll catch that ghost with my ghost catching zapper!”

The cow found the ghost and zapped it out of the air.

The skunk was amazed, and he sat and he stared.

“Thank you kind cow for helping me out!

I owe you my gratitude, without a doubt.”

Halloween night had come to an end.

And the cow and the skunk remained close friends.

6 Month Stats

Here are Corbin’s official 6 month stats from his check up:

height: 27 in (75%)

weight: 17.7 lbs (50%)

(Don’t let the light fool you.  Despite what looks like an angelic halo lighting up Corbin’s crazy hair, it’s just the sunlight coming in from a window.  I know you are SO surprised by this…the child is not an angel:)

As I attempted to take these pictures I found that it was getting more challenging then it used to be.  In the days of old I could just lay Corbin down where I wanted him and how I wanted him to lay.  Now, he is SO curious about everything around him. He will roll to get whatever is peaking his curiosity.  Needless to say, the tape measure and the scale where of a constant distraction while I tried to snap these pictures.  I was doing some pretty crazy and silly things to get his attention.

Here are some “outtakes” of our picture adventure this morning.

I’m sure this is only a foretaste of what’s to come when he’s mobile.  Yea!

Parenthood Trumps Plans

When you become a parent you give your life over to the needs of your child.  Let’s be honest, not because you always want to, but because you need to do what’s best for your child.  Tonight Chris and I had a real dose of reality with this concept.

We had plans to go over to some friend’s house for a game night.  Corbin and I have both been battling sickness this week, so this was really our first time out and about around others all week.  Yahoo!…freedom from the house!

A group of us gathered, the kids were playing and the adults were talking.  It was a great time!  What a nice way to spend an evening.  It was getting to be around 8:00, Corbin’s bedtime, so Chris sat down and feed him a bottle and we hoped that he would fade quietly into slumberland.

Well, quiet and slumber did not come even close to occurring.  How about a hacking, loud cough that brought a torrent of milk vomit pouring out of Corbin’s mouth and nose.  Oh yes people, it projectiled out all over Chris, our friends’ carpet, and their couch.

I’ll give it to Chris, he calmly sat there while I ran to go clean up the mess on him, Corbin, and the surrounding area.

Luckily, we were with a group of sympathetic parents.  They all understood, they all offered support.  I felt HORRIBLE that this was all over someone else’s carpet and couch.  But, our sweet wonderful hosts were just awesome.  They made me feel like it wasn’t a huge nasty mess, that my kid hadn’t just smelled up the room, that this was no big deal.  Ahh, what wonderful liars :) But it really did make me feel better…so thanks.!

Anyway, we packed our soaking wet child up…because despite what I said after the diaper blow out awhile ago, I had not packed extra clothes like I said I always would from now on.  I just didn’t foresee anything happening tonight.  I thought he would sleep.  I thought we would be accident free.  Oh people, when oh when will I learn!

We drove home and that sweet child of ours just babbled and cooed all the way home.  He didn’t seem bothered by the path of destruction he left.  Nope, he was doing fine, which is a good thing, but really does he have no shame? ;)

We got home and after putting on my hazmat suit changed the child and washed out his clothes, Chris’ clothes, and the burp rag that literally held a half gallon of throw-up.  GROSS!!

So our plans for tonight were to have fun hanging out with friends, but our reality…clean up milk vomit, do laundry, write a blog post, and go to bed early.  Oh well, I guess this is what they call parenthood:)

Corbin’s Clean Up (because really the pictures of Corbin are really what keep you 10 readers coming back;)

IMG_1576I’m getting clean!

Oh my! Is this picture necessary now?  I just got out of the tub, sheesh.

Ok, now I’m ready for my close up.  Come on, closer.  You gotta get a good shot of this face.

Sick

Corbin and I have been dealing with some kind of cold or flu since Monday.  But, we are going to see the doctor today and hopefully be back to normal soon.

Corbin, as his usual self, has not really been extra fussy, he just has had tons and tons of snot running out of his nose.  In fact, I’m pretty sure he’s acting more adult-like then I am.  I’m pretty much a baby when it comes to being sick.

Anyway, we were at the doctor last week for Corbin’s 6 month check up so I have his official stats to post.  But, again that will have to wait until I’m feeling better.

This is Corbin’s first round of sickness.  It had to be blogged for posterity’s sake.

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth

I guess we need to take those off of Corbin’s Christmas list.  His two front teeth decided to show up early.  They started popping through this week, so by Christmas his two front teeth will already be here along with many other teeth I’m sure!

6 Months

Corbin is officially 6 months old today!

IMG_1559

Generally this post is dedicated to what new things he’s up to.  But let’s be honest: he’s pretty much doing what he did at 5 months, just with more proficiency:)

So this post is dedicated to us, Corbin’s parents.  We have learned many things in the last 6 months since he’s been born.

Here is a list of the top ten things (no particular order):

1.  What comes in must come out.  However, the coming out has many many forms of grossness.  No one goes into details about the smells and forms that poop comes in.  I had no idea!

2.  Do not expect for your child to perform on cue.  They do what you want them to when no one is watching, and do everything you don’t want them to when everyone is watching.

3.  Holding a baby who’s just had a bottle over your head will result in an unexpected “shower”.

IMG_1567

4.  Baby teeth are super sharp!  Put your finger in a babies mouth at your own risk.  It might not come out unscathed.

5.  The perfect outfit that you picked out will only stay perfect for 2.5 SECONDS.

6.  Always bring a spare everything: shirt, pants, diapers, rags, bottles….

IMG_1564

7.  Your life changes.  Everyone says that, but until you experience it you will never fully understand.  When they say your life changes it truly means EVERY aspect of you life is different.  This is neither a good or bad thing, it just is.

8.  A baby is a stranger magnet.  Anyone and everyone will talk to a baby.  In the store, restaurant, bathroom, hotel lobby, anywhere we go people will come to us and ask about Corbin.  It’s been fun and interesting to meet new people.

9.  Babies are born with hair on their ears, lots of hair.  It will go away, but it just takes time.  (This one was such a shock to me.  I almost had Chris convinced that we needed to start saving for hair removal surgery.  I was not letting my child go through life looking like he had wolfman ears!)

IMG_1565

10. Your life is now on a schedule based on feedings, naps, and diaper changes.  To just leave the house whenever…that’s impossible, it must be timed.  If even one of those needs is not met or will need to be met in the time you are gone, why go out in the first place.   You are just in for way more work than it’s worth. Stay home.

So we’ve learned a few things as parents.  Even things people tell you before you have kids can’t possibly be understood until you have kids.

The last 6 months have been an interesting ride.  I’m not even about to guess what the next 6 months will bring and what I might learn then.

Late Breaking News–Corbin Can Sit Up

I set up this blog to record important events, funny happenings, and general information about Corbin.  Because scrapbooking is not my thing, this blog was going to be my “thing”.  Corbin’s poor baby book doesn’t even have one little picture in it and the little writing I did do I had to scribble out because I messed up.  I hate scribbles…why did I write in pen!

To be frankly honest, I’m too scared to enter into that book again.  Who knew a baby book was going to be a little too much like scrapbooking…yuck!  My type A personality just doesn’t it have it in me.

I often will write down blog ideas if I don’t have the time to post them right then.  However, the flaw in this is that I sometimes forget to look at the list of ideas and topics to blog about.  Therefore, important things do not get posted…ooops!

To my dismay, as I was looking back over a list of post ideas I saw listed there: Corbin sitting up.  I did a double take, certain that I had posted something about this.  But, upon closer inspection of my older posts I do not have anything about this accomplishment.

How many “bad mom” awards can I win!  Seriously people…I apologize for this late breaking news, but here it is…Corbin can sit up on his own very well.  He has been doing this for about a month.  That’s right.  A whole month has gone by without my notice of this oversight, yikes!

I remembered I had taken a picture of Corbin sitting up on his own for a post about him sitting up (that never happened at the time:), but thanks to technology this picture has the date.  So I can accurately tell you that Corbin was officially sitting well in the middle of September.  (These pictures were taken on the 19th.)

IMG_1371

Poor Corbin, his face is showing outrage.  It’s as if he knew I would forget to post his big accomplishment.  And I’m getting an “Oh how could you mama! You forgot?” Maybe my child has special abilities to for see the future;)

IMG_1374

So, there it is, Corbin’s sitting.  I’m sure most of you knew that already, but if you hadn’t there you go, late breaking news to take with you throughout the day:)

Party Time

Corbin attended his first birthday party this weekend.  One of our friend’s little girl turned one year old.  They had an adorable monkey themed party out at the park.

As Corbin is only 6 months off from turning one I was taking notes and tips on how to throw a party for a one year old.

The best takeaway idea I got was to have the party outside.  The great outdoors provides such a nice setting for cake messes, punch spills, and kids to run around.

IMG_1421

Corbin went shopping with me at Target and helped pick out a cute little sweater dress.  That boy has good taste!

Here’s the birthday girl with her parents while we sang happy birthday.

IMG_1427

We tried to get a picture with Corbin and the birthday girl, but he really just wanted the cake.  I don’t blame him…it was yummy!

Corbin had a great time at the party and can’t wait for his own!

Buhler Frolic

This weekend we traveled to the lovely town of Buhler to join in on some small town fun.

First up: Friday night football. Buhler is an undefeated team, so the atmosphere was filled with excitement throughout this close game. To top it off, it was homecoming so a win was necessary.  Thankfully, Buhler did end up being victorious.

Our main reason for going, besides to eat some great concession food, and sit out in the beautiful weather, was to see Chris’ sister march in the band.  She is a senior (tear, tear, I can not believe that!) and we want to make sure and soak up all of her last high school activities before she graduates.

IMG_1404

Here’s Katie marching (this was not a “Katie approved” picture to post, but I’m posting it anyway because I feel it is relevant to what I’m talking about:)  The band sounded and looked really wonderful. It was definitely fun to watch.

Corbin loved being at the game with grandma.  He was interested in everything around him.

IMG_1400

The next day, we again were at Buhler for the frolic!  The day started off with a rousing parade and ended with Katie’s performance in Buhler Singers.

I really love small towns.  Where else will you find the main street in town blocked off and free of traffic for the whole day and people just wandering around eating, shopping, and watching the local entertainment.  What fun!

IMG_1412

Here Corbin was intently watching the tractors. He really took everything in at the parade.

IMG_1417

The day ended with the Buhler Singers.  The group did a great job.  Here Katie is singing her stellar solo. She was awesome!

Fun was had by all at the Buhler Frolic.
