ROLLING OVER OR NOT

I have debated about this post for a few days now. I feel like it’s not true, even though it is. What you are about to see cannot be duplicated yet. It was a fluke, a happenstance that may not occur again for awhile. Trust me I’ve tried, but it hasn’t happened.

However, I decided that since it did really happen and it excited me that I would document it anyway. But, again I want to reiterate this cannot be duplicated yet, so please don’t expect a repeat performance. I’ll keep you updated for that.

A few days ago I put Corbin down, on his back for the night, but he wasn’t completely out, so he was flailing about in his crib trying to get comfy. So, I left him to do that and went to check on him a few minutes later and this is what I found:

IMG_0529

I was stunned and of course I had to snap a picture because I honestly couldn't believe my own eyes. I think he had just tossed and turned enough that he got himself flipped over to his tummy.

Since that night I have tried numerous times to repeat this event, but to no avail. I’m sure in time it will happen again, but I’m not a very patient person, so until then I’ve been on the floor with him turning over myself to model what to do.  I’m sure he gives me looks that say you’re crazy momma….and he’s right. But, that’s the great thing about having your own kids, you can be crazy with them!

Play Time

Corbin had his friend Braddock come over and play the other day.  They had a great time!

They are 4 months apart in age and it’s so interesting to watch them interact with each other.

The boys had conversations with each other and  I’m sure they were saying some very important things.  In fact I’m a little worried about what they were saying.  They sure were smiling a lot, so I have a feeling they were discussing us, their parents. Has it started already?;)

They even tried arm wrestling.  It was a match of strengths, but I think Braddock won;  only because he had the upper hand in being able to sit up.  Poor Corbin could only lay there while Braddock used his body weight to get his arm down.  But just wait until Corby can sit up, he’ll get Braddock next time.

Here are a few snapshots of their time together:

IMG_0532 “Hey Braddock, you might not want to eat that hand.  I just took it out of my mouth.”

IMG_0531 “Braddock, I think my mom wants us to look at her.  She does this ALL the time.  Sorry…it get’s SO embarrassing!”

IMG_0530 “Ok mom we’re looking, make this quick, we’ve got things to do.”

Traveler

Corbin has been to France…

IMG_0537

IMG_0536  well at least his shirt was there.

Corbin’s Aunt Katie took a 10 day trip to Europe with her French Club. She was so thoughtful to bring back Corbin this shirt from France. (Although it’s still a little very big we really appreciate the gesture. And I’m sure he will grow into it so much faster than we can even imagine.)

IMG_0478

While Chris and I traveled the globe (with pictures and a glass of wine...:) to London, Paris, Switzerland, and Germany Corbin got time to cuddle and play with Grandma.

First Father’s Day

This weekend Chris and I prepared to host a father’s day feast for Chris’ family. Part of my preparation was to decide what Corbin was going to wear. I wanted Corbin and Chris to, not necessarily match, but coordinate.

Corbin had some cute plaid shorts with a polo that I wanted him to wear, but Chris did not have any plaid shorts. We were going to Target anyways, so I thought I would check out their clothes and see if I could find some for Chris.

At Target Chris and I went to the men’s section and there were tons of plaid shorts. We easily found a pair and in his size. Chris approved, I asked him to try them on, he declined, I sighed and hoped they would fit, but from experience I knew they probably would. He NEVER tries anything on, while I live in dressing rooms and usually end up coming out with nothing. Oh by the way, this “search” for plaid shorts took all of 2 minutes.

Chris asked me if I was going to get something for myself that was new and plaid. I stopped, looked at him and asked if he wanted to shop for 3 hours, go to multiple stores, and pray at each stop that I would find something I liked that would fit. He of course said no and as seen by our family father’s day picture I did not get anything new or plaid. Ahh, it’s tough being a woman when you have to find new clothes.

But, I digress this is not about my shopping woes, but about father’s day.

Chris’ family came over and we enjoyed wonderful steaks, nice conversation,

and lots of playing,

All in all it was a nice first father’s day for Chris.

2 Month Stats

Corbin had his two month check up this week and along with that came 2 shots.

Oh poor Corbin, he played so happily before we left, not knowing what was about to befall him.

IMG_0432

I dressed him in camo pants to give him a tough man mentality…bring on the shots!

Well needless to say, the pants did not bring him any extra power. Corbin wailed during and after his shots.  But, he calmed down pretty quickly with a few hugs from momma and these awesome Iron Man Band-Aids.

IMG_0427

I wish I could look that cute sporting Band-Aids and thunder thighs!

Also at his appointment we got his new stats:

24 inches long (putting him in the 90th percentile)

IMG_0455

12 lbs (putting him in the 50th percentile)

What Do You Do

I love the lake; the sun, the boat rides, skiing, and tubing. Ahh, what a great time to be had, unless it rains (like Noah and the ark type rain for two days).

IMG_0398

So what do you do then?

Eat…

IMG_0420

Play…

IMG_0395

Talk…

IMG_0401

And most importantly sleep…

IMG_0403

Yup, the lake can still be fun even with the rain!

TWO MONTHS

Corbin is two months old today.  These last weeks have rapidly flown by and we are constantly amazed at how he grows and changes.

IMG_0409

Corbin is still hooked to the bottle.  He is in constant need of a milk fix every 2-3 hours.  We are going to try and curb this addiction, but hey it’s not easy to give up something so delicious and nutritious.

A recent talent has developed…creating a massive fountain of spit bubbles.  I’m sure this will be a life skill that will open doors and really get him places in life.  We are very proud!

Corbin has also been honing his verbal skills. He has gone from grunting (he learned that from his dad) to cooing and giggling (learned from his mom).

Eagle eyes has become Corbin’s new nickname these days.  He is constantly following objects and intensely looking at items.  Corbin’s always on the look out for us, except when he’s asleep (which is still like  6 hours a day…really Corbin….do you need that much beauty sleep;).

IMG_0410

I’m sure Corbin has felt like these two months with Chris and I have felt like a lifetime…!

Friends

Everyone needs friends, even an 8 week old little guy.

Corbin loved up on his baby giraffe last week.

IMG_0286

IMG_0287

But alas, friendships can’t last forever (or in this case even a week!).  Baby giraffe has been traded in for Mr. Zebra.

IMG_0372

Well, who doesn’t love stripes!

Baby giraffe has been relocated into the pile with all the other toys that are eagerly awaiting Corbin’s love and friendship.

IMG_0369

Maybe one day, baby giraffe, you will be graced with Corbin’s love again, but for now enjoy your rest.

Fish, Lizard, and Snake…Oh My!

Corbin..

IMG_0345

Corbin, over here….

IMG_0347

There you are.

IMG_0348

What did you think about our walk today?

IMG_0343

Interesting and different. I can see that written all over your face.

Corbin’s right. The walk we took through our little neighborhood should not have held such adventure but it did.

It began as any other.  I power walked the stroller around the block and then went down a tree lined walking path.  As I’m almost halfway through the path I notice a glowing item just ahead.  What could that be I wonder.  So I approach slowly and to my horror, dismay, and wonderment it’s a dead fish on the ground.

IMG_0336

(I even took a picture of it.  I try to have my camera with me.  You never know when a blogging moment might present itself and I need to take a picture.  And aren’t we all glad I had it this day:)

Weird!  From my limited education in animal science I’m pretty sure fish live in water and there is no water to be found around here.  So how it got there is a mystery to me.

Anyway, we continue on and go out of the walking path and back on the street. A few minutes later as I’m walking along I freeze, heart beating, and scream.  (The scream was a slight decimal above human hearing so I’m sure I can safely assume that none of my neighbors heard and peered out of their front window wondering what that crazy lady was screaming about.)  I couldn’t hold it in….there in front of me lie what appeared to be a big black lizard.

IMG_0335

Upon closer inspection this is what I saw.

IMG_0332

Clearly not a true lizard, it was a toy. (Although I never looked really close nor did I touch it just to be safe.) So, I added to my craziness and whipped out my camera to take a picture.

Corbin and I bravely continued on and went back down another wooded walking path.  What would be the chances that nature would come at us again.  Boy, I was wrong.

As I was walking I heard the sound of grass rustling, but it’s Kansas and I thought it was the wind. The sound continued to get louder and then out of no where a gigantic striped snake slithered out of the dark shadows of the grass and right into our path! (If you ask someone else who saw the snake they might say it was a small garter snake.) I screamed, cried, and hastily ran away on shaking legs.  (I now know what motivates me to run.)  I didn’t take time to get a picture…I’m not that crazy.

Needless to say after all this Corbin and I hightailed it home, shut the door, and stayed inside.  I think I prefer nature from the indoors.

Ladies Man

Watch out ladies: Corbin is on the hunt. This boy cooed, smiled, and flirted with our female lunch guests today.

At this stage in life he seems to have a preference for older ladies, but we’ll see what happens as he gets older;)

Here’s Corbin (and his thoughts) in action:

IMG_0327

“If I followed you home would you keep me?”

IMG_0329

“Oh yeah, you think I’m cute.”
