“What the What” Wednesday

Corbin loves shoes!  What the what?  I don’t know where this comes from.

But beware: in our house if you take off your shoes this one will take them.

Then you might have to hunt for them…

and you just might find them on the counter, of course!  (Note: He’s never put them on the counter before and it will not be a place that he can put shoes again.  But I had to take the picture…it was too cute!   And yes I cleaned my counter so it’s free from the bottom of my shoe germs.  I know some of you were worried.  Rest easy, all is clean and sanitary now.)

Exploring

Corbin and I headed to a local science center and did some exploring!

To begin, we made a beeline for the cars of course!  Corbin drove his cars up and down the ramp and took a ride in the big car down the ramp as well…fun!

Then we dared to venture across the bridge multiple times!

The view was amazing and Corbin took time to stop and enjoy.

The bridge led us to a ship that Corbin bravely became the captain of; we ventured through uncharted waters.

Continuing in our explorations we happened upon a castle where Corbin declared himself king for the day.  He tried out the royal throne and decided it was a perfect fit.

Next we traveled on to the countryside where we saw a cow, rode in a combine, spotted a prairie dog, and did some light shopping at the farmer’s market.

Recommendation

One of my bible studies just finished reading Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow and loved it! This is the first book I have done in a bible study that I enjoyed from cover to cover. Every single chapter offered something for me to think about, reflect on, and work to improve on.

IMG_1728

The book’s premise is finding contentment. The chapters deal with contentment in our circumstances, with ourselves, our roles, relationships, and dealing with the what ifs and whys of life. Every chapter is steeped in bible verses and practical knowledge drawn from the author’s life. There is a guide in the back of each chapter that extends your thinking to push you and apply what’s been read to your own life.

I highly recommend this book for a self-study or a small group. I truly think this book is convicting and will change the way you think about your thoughts.

Contentment lies in our faith of God and this book will challenge you to look at your faith; is it an intellectual faith or is it a faith owned by you in your heart that you rely on? “Our faith is a serious issue with God. He wants us to trust Him no matter what our situation is, no matter what our portion.”

Corbin’s Buddy

Grandpa was Corbin’s lake buddy this weekend. Corbin went to Grandpa for all requests to read his books, play with cars, play tag or throw the ball.

Corbin only had eyes for Grandpa…this weekend. Who knows who might be the next lucky chosen one to be Corbin’s buddy :).

A Parent’s Picasso

IMG_1702

Corbin has been working on scribbling with a crayon these days.  He seems to enjoy making his marks!

After a time of doodling with the crayons he likes to drive them around like cars…I know you’re shocked!  This kid loves cars.

Nature Center

Corbin and I headed to a nearby nature center to check out their indoor exhibits.

I had been there a couple of times with my first graders as a field trip, but that’s been awhile and I wasn’t sure what we would find to interest Corbin.  But, I was surprised to see that there were many things to look at, touch, and feel that held his attention.

The prairie exhibit was interesting.         Corbin kept checking the bison out.  Not sure what he thought of it:)

There were a variety of animal furs to touch.  I’m not going to lie this was NOT my favorite.  I took one for the team and lightly touched the furs to encourage Corbin to do so as well.  I don’t think he enjoyed what he was touching either.  He did not give them more then a fingertip brush.  I can’t blame him…yuck!

Corbin loved pushing the buttons and seeing the animals light up as well as the noises they make.  He was very excited to see the lights flash on after he pushed a button.  The small joys of “cause and effect”!

Corbin lounged by a tree stump for awhile to gear up for his FAVORITE exhibit:

…the fish tank!  Corbin stood by those fish pointing, babbling, and giggling for several minutes.  It was super fun to watch and made me think we might need to get some fish at home if he’s that entertained by them.

We will definitely be heading back to the nature center again!

Friends United

My college roommates got together with our kiddos and headed to a sprinkler park to play in the water and then hang out for the afternoon.

It was such fun getting together.  I feel so very blessed to have special life long friends!  Watching us all grow up and go along in life is wonderful.  I’ve known some of these girls since kindergarten!

Thanks ladies…I love you all!
