Sensory Tub

I have been reading on blogs about other people who have created sensory tubs. Basically, a sensory tub is filled with an object (rice, beans, water, etc) that kids can play with to experience different textures.

So I thought "why not try it out?" I bought a tub, a couple of bags of rice and put together a sensory tub.

Corbin enjoyed playing in it. He liked to throw the rice out of the tub. Thankfully, we were outside so it didn’t really matter.

He also liked to dig and find cars I would hide underneath the rice. Although I have to say I use the term "digging" loosely. Corbin didn’t completely understand the concept of digging. He was trying to take handfuls of rice and throw it out of the tub to uncover a car.

Overall, the tub provides some entertainment and something different to play with when we are outside.

Goodbyes

Our family had to say goodbye to some dear neighbors of ours last week.  A new job has taken them out of state and far, far away from our neighborhood.

Deana is a stay-at-home mom with two kiddos, so we often had play dates which were such fun!  The kids played so well together. Corbin always ran to the door when it was time to go visit them. I am truly going to miss watching the kiddos play and grow up together.

I always appreciated having a young mom down the street from me to talk to. What a blessing to have others around you who have already gone through the baby stage and can offer some advice and lend a sympathetic ear to the woes of a new mom.

I know that moving is a part of life, but it’s still sad.  We will always be grateful to have known such wonderful neighbors and friends!

We’ll miss you guys!  Hugs and kisses from our family to yours…

Uncle Brent’s Birthday!

We traveled to Oklahoma to visit Uncle Brent, Aunt April, and Cousin Collin to celebrate Brent’s birthday. Grandma and Grandpa Williams were there as well!

We had such a relaxing and wonderful day.  We ate at a great brick oven pizza place, played with toys, took naps, went outside to play in the water, and finished the day with a cookout and cake.

IMG_1410Grandpa and Grandma were active participants in pool time while the parents stood back, took pictures and tried not to get wet…good times!

IMG_1405What time outside wouldn’t be complete without a friendly race.  It looks as if Corbin has a huge lead, but that’s because he started before everyone else.  But don’t worry, Corbin always stopped halfway to the finish line and turned around to watch Collin, so he never actually completed a race and always lost. ;)

It was a great day hanging out with family. Happy birthday, Uncle Brent!

15 Months

Although I’m not doing monthly updates and pictures with Corbin, I did decide - after days of thinking on this :) - I am going to do updates for each “well doctor” visit so I can keep track of his stats.

So the official Corbin stats are:

Weight:  23.3 lbs

Height:  32.5 in

I know a thrilling post!  There’s more where that came from…my creativity really knows no bounds.

Harry Potter

Yup, I’m a Harry Potter fan and I went to see the final movie this weekend.  It was fabulous!

I do recommend reading the book first before going.  There’s something about reading the book and being an active participant in imagining what’s going on, all before seeing the movie and what someone else has imagined.

I started the Harry Potter books not by choice.  I was forced to begin reading them in college when I took my elementary literature class.  But once I finished the first chapter of the first book I was hooked.

The Harry Potter series is well written with such descriptive language the reader cannot help but be brought into the community of Hogwarts where Harry explores the magical world.

If you’re not a Harry Potter fan and don’t understand what all the hype is about…read the books!  I highly recommend them for children and adults.

Spoon Fed

We are making progress with a spoon, people!  I am very excited to report that Corbin is interested and often attempts to actually use his utensils (in a correct manner) at meal times.

Ahh, the small things in life. :)

And please note that you see a cup sitting on his highchair that is FILLED with milk.  Corbin is great at drinking out of a cup by himself, but I used to always keep it out of reach until he indicated he needed a drink.

Well, last week I decided that I should venture out and give him a chance to be responsible and put the cup on his tray so he could drink whenever he wanted to, by himself. (Seriously I must have been feeling brave or maybe crazy, who knows!)

I am really proud of myself for doing this because it could have been disastrous.  I could have been changing clothes and cleaning my floors multiple times from milk spills, but nope, Corbin has done super.  Only one spill for an entire week!

Yup, Corbin’s growing up and I’m loving it!  Go Corbin. :)

How Can You Say No?

Corbin often comes to us with books to read. He holds them up and gives a pleading look, and I’m finding it very hard to say no to this. So regardless of what I’m doing I will usually stop and read. But really, what a great thing…stop, drop, and read! I love to see this excitement for reading emerge from Corbin!

“Will you read me a book?”

IMG_1207

“Please? Umm, side note, this book tastes pretty delicious! ”

“Yea, I love this part!”

“We love to read!”

4th of July Gone Wrong

The weekend started off with such promise.  Chris got off early from work and we headed to the park to play.  What fun we had running around, going down the slide, and even finding a hiding spot in a tepee.

Then off to the lake we went…swimming in the lake, in a pool, and playing with toys.

But after just one short day at the lake we were headed back home, sick, ALL of us.  Miserable colds kept us in the house Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

By the end of Tuesday we all felt like we had rejoined the living and even ventured out for a quick errand.  But oh my, it was a long, miserable weekend with lots of sleeping, chicken noodle soup, and no less than two full boxes of Kleenex being used.

This 4th of July will not make the top ten list of most favorite holiday memories.
