Pearly Whites

Corbin, open wide so we can look inside.

IMG_1211

Guess what we found hiding in there last week? Two teeth!

We thought he might be teething.  He gave us clues such as incessant drooling and the chewing of anything that he could get into his mouth.  Then last week I began to feel something through his gums and by the end of the week his two bottom teeth popped out.

If you look closely you too can see.  I knew you couldn’t wait.

IMG_1215

Overall, Corbin has been doing ok, but he isn’t perfect (Shocker, I thought my child would be.;) He has been more fussy than usual and seems to have some discomfort every now and then.  On the other hand he has also been more snuggly and cuddly which is nice.

Two teeth down only 30-some more to go?  Yea, should be fun!

The Stroller…Again

Ahh, the drama of our stroller continues. If you will remember back with me to a few months ago; there was a post about a certain mom (me) who thought she had put the stroller brakes on, but hadn’t and a certain baby (Corbin) went rolling down the driveway. Well, now we can add another thing to our list of new discoveries about the stroller.

Time for one of my favorite games; can you spot the difference between these two pictures. Hint look closely at the stroller.

That’s right one of them has a drink holder up front and the other doesn’t.

IMG_1207IMG_1210

Previously our stroller looked like the first picture and now it looks like the second. Why? Because of this…

We were at a store recently, checking out, when behind us stood a couple with our exact same stroller. However, theirs looked slightly different, they had the drink holder up front. I of course had to ask the couple about the tray. They informed me that the car seat snapped into the drink holder up front and held it into place.

I proceeded to tell them our story about having the same stroller, but not putting that holder on, blah, blah, blah…I’m a word vomiter, I can’t help it! Poor Chris was mortified and just wanted to leave, but I was very excited about this discovery. I’ve been saying for awhile that I thought his car seat seemed a little unstable in the stroller and it would tip forward, not dangerously so, but noticeable so, and I just thought it was odd. But, I’m no hiking momma out on the trails of some mammoth steep path, so for the flat paths and roads that we walk it’s always been ok.

But now, now we have added the drink holder (which we thought wouldn’t be put on till he was older because we thought that its use was to hold drinks. Not to ensure the safety of our child. They really really need to highlight that in the directions) and the car seat is SO much more secure!

Wow, who knew a cup holder could be so important? Now that he is so secure maybe I’ll have to find some steep hills and start “off roading” with the stroller….

The Many Faces of Corbin

One of our new sources of entertainment has become what we call Corbyvision. Instead of watching television we watch Corbin. He has SO many faces and expressions and we love to try and get different ones out of him during an evening. Some of his looks are priceless and if you insert what he might be thinking with the looks he’s giving, well that’s just hours of entertainment….to Chris and I.

So, here is a glimpse into the many faces of Corbin that we view on our exclusive Corbyvision channel:

Deflated

“Ready to go Corbin? Excellent, I see you are, no need to reply.”

IMG_1200

I was feeling good about myself today. Here we were 20 minutes before we needed to be at our destination ready to go and looking good. These days that’s not always the case.

In particular every other Thursday morning we have a little play group we go to, and the past few times we haven’t been able to get there on time. Multiple poopy diapers, late nap, hunger strikes, and a very long stuck train; those are some of the reasons we have been late. But today, today was different and we were going to make it.

Or not. Here’s what I saw…yeah, a flat tire; perfect!

IMG_1198

I knew exactly what to do. It only took seconds to devise my plan….call Chris and he’ll come home and rescue us. I made the call, he answered, but he did not give me the response I had envisioned. Instead of “I’ll be right there”, it was “just sit tight.” He said, “there’s an air pump in the garage, use it to air the tire, and drive to the tire place.” Umm, excuse me? Did you just say I have to air a tire up? Never done that, and I’ve never used an air pump. A tire gauge…what’s that?

Ok, so yes I know that’s sad and yes I SHOULD be educated on these things, but I’m not because I’ve never needed it, until now. After a quick flash of panic and feeling of helplessness, I bucked up and went to work. After a short time I did have the pump out and was in the process of airing up the tire when my sweet friend down the street came driving up. She is much more talented in being handy and fixing things, so she very competently took over and helped me air the tire and then followed me to the tire place.

After an hour and half of waiting, with a baby, in a lobby, with not much to do, I had a tire that was drivable and I was on my way. Just another first for Corbin and me:)

“Seriously, what a day!”

Officially Rolling

Corbin is officially rolling over.  It’s only one way and it’s only from his tummy to back, but hey he’s still rolling:)

I grabbed the camera and took a short video of him rolling.  Disregard the end where I’m giving him affirmation and sounding like a cartoon character.  (I was seriously startled and shocked by the sound of my voice on this video.  Can anyone else relate to this feeling?)

Anyway, without further comments about myself here’s Corbin’s rolling debut:

4 Months

IMG_1187

“Excellent, I’m 4 months old! Only a few months away from my world domination.”

Believe it or not this little guy turned 4 months old Friday.  He is certainly growing and changing each day.

Because I have mad skills at poetry I have composed an acrostic poem with some of Corbin’s 4 month highlighted abilities.  Please note this does not encompass all of his charms, talents, and capabilities, but I only have so much room and time.  And I’m sure you only have so much patience and tolerance to hear me ramble on and on about Corby’s wonderfulness;)

Clutching and grabbing objects

Occasionally rolling from tummy to back

Really working hard to sit up

Babbling, blowing bubbles, and a constant fountain of spit

In control of his head when being sat up and holding it up to 90 degrees on the floor

Noticeable curious about the world around him

He went to the doctor on Friday and we have received his official stats:

25.5 inches long (although I’m positive the nurse said 26 inches long, but she then wrote it down incorrectly, but I could be wrong…it’s been known to happen OCCASIONALLY.  Chris, me being occasionally wrong  is accurate:)

14.5 pounds

Here Corbin is all dressed up to go to the doctor.

IMG_1149

”What a big boy am I. So handsome, so smooth…what mom?”

IMG_1154
“What?!?  Are you kidding me mom?  Big boys have to get shots.  Well maybe I don’t want to be so big after all.”

Regardless of how Corbin was feeling he did have his shots but he didn’t act like such a big boy.  He howled and cried for a good 3-5 minutes after (if I was prone to exaggeration and good thing I’m not.  I would say that he howled and cried for 10-15 minutes after…it felt that long when everyone in the place I’m sure could hear him).

He also has been experiencing a small fever since his shots and been sleeping a lot.  So, he’s had a slight reaction to them, but I’m sure he’ll be doing just fine in a day a two.  Gosh, 4 months is tough;)

Happy 4 months Corbin!

Mission Accomplished

Corbin is almost 4 months old, and he is doing well with holding his head up. He now has a constant desire to sit up. So, we thought he would soon be ready for a jumper activity set.

On Sunday, armed with coupons and a good deal at Babies“R”Us, we set off to buy one. However, we had plans all day Sunday and didn’t get home till late so Chris was unable to put the jumper together.

IMG_1108

This afternoon I spied the box sitting awaiting Chris to come home from work to put it together. “But,” I thought, “I’m an intelligent and educated woman, I can certainly put this together.” Yes, I’m directionally challenged, yes I can be low on patience, yes I’m not exactly skilled in using tools, but I was still up for the task.

IMG_1105

Corbin laid on his playmate (which I put together I’ll have you know…ok it was attaching two poles to a piece of fabric, but I still put it together) and he cheered me on as I set out to accomplish the mission.

IMG_1102

My first task, opening the box; oh my word whatever kind of tape they used really taxed my muscles! But, I got it opened and dumped out the pieces. Now, I’m not a man, so the first thing I did was search out the directions. I opened the directions and after flipping through the whole book began to panic that there wasn’t an English version, but upon closer inspection there were English directions interspersed with two other languages. Seriously, one would think I could have spied the English words, but apparently not; this is when my confidence began to waiver and I began to wonder if could do this, but I was determined to succeed.

IMG_1106

I diligently followed the directions taking one step at a time and consulting with Corbin (you would be surprised at how much insight he has and he seems to really know how to guide me;). After only 20 minutes – that’s right ladies and gentlemen – only 20 minutes later (and a few broken nails, hurt toe because I might have dropped a massive piece on it, and a few choice words spoken very very quietly under my breath so Corbin could not hear) I had the jumper put together! And not only put together, but it appeared to be put together correctly and looked like the picture in the box!

Now, it was time to put Corbin in.

IMG_1113

Too bad his feet don’t touch, but he seemed to like it.

IMG_1109

IMG_1123

IMG_1133

Upon closer inspection of the directions they recommend that the child’s toes do touch the ground, so I thought I would try and remedy the situation. Look, I went to all that trouble to put the toy together, my child is going to be using it. So, I put my books to good use and for now it works as a temporary solution until I can either think of something better or he grows taller. Come on Corby grow, momma wants to see you jump…I worked hard to put this together and gosh darn it you’re going to like it and use it everyday;)

Pool Ponderings

IMG_1073

Hey Grandma, my parents said you had a pool to play in.  Is this information true?

IMG_1074

Dad, she said yes.  Let’s go swimming!  Umm, but you’re going to have to put me down first.  I know, I know parting is such sweet sorrow.

IMG_1076

Oh, this is a pool?  It’s like a big bath.  Not sure about this.

IMG_1080[4]

Grandma, your fingers can really dance in the water.  Mad props to you, what skill!  Dad, Dad, look you really have to watch.

IMG_1081

Ah ha, I’m going to catch those dancing fingers…

IMG_1082

with my mouth and eat them!

IMG_1083

No, just joking I only want to play with them.

IMG_1088
This pool thing, not so bad.  I think I’m going to just kick back and relax.

IMG_1089

Whaaat!  Now it’s pouring water?  I was not expecting this.

IMG_1090

Very interesting.

IMG_1095

Ummm, after much pondering…

IMG_1101

I think this pool thing will work out just fine:)

Come join in the fun!

A Nod and a Grin to a Love of my Life

I have some loves of my life; Corbin, Chris, and God. However, I have recently reunited with another one of my loves…Dr. Pepper. Since I’m no longer pregnant, Dr. Pepper and I have grown close once again. I know, I know pop is full of sugar, empty liquid calories, and there are no healthy redeeming qualities. I am aware of these facts, but I don’t care. My one Dr. Pepper a day is a love that can’t be broken.

There is nothing like cracking open a can of cold delicious goodness to make me happy. If my will power holds out right around 3:00 (when Corbin is asleep), I sit in my living room with a cold can of DP, crack it open, and take that first life giving swallow. I sit and revel in the silence and enjoy every drop of the sweet, amber liquid that flows from the can.

This is one love that I’m not trying to pass on to Corbin, but if he does end up loving Dr. Pepper I can’t fault him for it…it’s too good to resist!  Corbin decided to help me out and model the different ways the oh so delicious Dr. Pepper can be offered:

Dr. Pepper can come from a 2-liter, but let’s face it after the first day that wonderful fizz and peppy taste fades. By the second day and then by the third the Dr. Pepper is not nearly as zesty as it once was.

IMG_0912

As for a 24 oz bottle there is something to be said for having that much Dr. Pepper to drink in one day, but unless you continually take the bottle back to the fridge, it never stays as cold as I would like.

IMG_0913

But a can, a can is perfection. It’s one serving that retains it coolness through the whole drinking experience. A cold can of Dr. Pepper is one of my loves in life. DP has never failed to put a smile on my face, a spring in my step, and a satisfying sigh to my breath.  Despite what the day has been like my Dr. Pepper is always there to lift me up, ahhh…

IMG_0918

I love you Dr. Pepper!

Swimming

Before we even begin this post I would like to preface it with the fact that Corbin has three swim trunks that are super cute. However, this post is a nod to the “ghettoness” in us all:)  And you will view Corbin, not in his cute coordinated trunks and swim shirts, but in only a diaper that is sopping wet and falling down to show a cute little plumber’s crack.

On Saturday, at the lake, it was a beautiful day and we thought it a perfect time to take Corbin out into the water.  This was his first experience of actually being IN the lake.

What did Corbin think?  By his expression we couldn’t tell.  He showed neither disdain or enthusiasm.  But, no worries because regardless of what he thought he will find himself back in the lake again because I love it and I want him to love it too:)

IMG_0964  IMG_0970

While at the lake, swimming, boat riding, and playing Corbin had some time to think and wanted to leave you with his deep thought of the weekend:

IMG_0974[5]

“Umm, I think I heard it once said that happiness is nothing more than a poor memory.  That must be the reason, from my observations, why grandparents are always the happiest people.”
