Cheerio Love

We love Cheerios in this house.  We eat them for breakfast, Corbin has them as a snack, and I personally love them for lunch!

IMG_3789

So, when we were gifted some Cheerio books I knew they would be a big hit.  The Cheerio books have a text that asks the reader to put cheerios in certain places on the picture to complete the scene.

Corbin loves these books!

The Cheerio books provide an opportunity for the kids to be interactive with the book, use their listening skills, and practice following directions. IMG_3824

And of course eating Cheerios is always allowed:)Reading and eating…how could it get any better!

And All Because of a Bean

In our house Corbin doesn’t acquire the “spaghetti face” so much, he’s pretty neat when it comes to that food.  Nope, for our family it’s the “black bean” face.

IMG_3871

This kid loves his black beans!

IMG_3870

He is always given a spoon, but sometimes that utensil just doesn’t give him enough beans at a fast enough pace.  So, ditch the spoon and use the hand…why not!

IMG_3865IMG_3866IMG_3867

This face…this mess…all because of a bean!

(Please note Corbin’s little hand in the edge of the right side of the picture.  He could not even stand for ONE little bean to be placed there and wait for a picture to be taken.  Corbin had to eat it:)

Precious Words

I’m LOVING this age that Corbin is at.  One enjoyable thing is his explosion of small sentences.  These are always fun to hear.

For example, he often walks into a room where I am and he says:

“Hi mommy!  How are you?”

Really?  That’s way too precious!

IMG_3840IMG_3838IMG_3839

Yesterday, after he and Chris made a trip to the store, I asked him:

“Corbin, what did you get at the store?”

“Oranges and Kleenex and peaches and chicken.” Ok, note to self: tell Corbin my grocery list so he can help me remember what I need!  (He likes to say the word ‘and’ between everything in a list…love it!)

IMG_3797

Corbin will also talk to himself, which I know I do.  For instance, if he can’t get something the first time he tells himself to “try again”.  Love that!  Or as he is doing a task after each step he finishes he’ll say “ok” and then move on.  It’s really cute.

These little words from Corbin are so precious to me and I am really loving this stage:)

What the What Wednesday

We had not taken a family photo in awhile, so before church this Sunday I thought we should take a quick pic.

We pulled out the tripod and set the camera up to take a picture.  Chris and I were trying to get the correct positioning for the pictures before we brought Corbin into the mix and this was one of the pictures that we snapped…

IMG_3764

Really there are no words…really no words.

But I’ll try:  Chris is overly animated and excited and I am in shock that apparently the camera that I’m sitting in front of took my picture.

What the what!?!

When we can’t Daddy can

When something is lost and Corbin and I can’t find it I say “Daddy can find it for us.”

When something is broken and Corbin and I can’t fix it I say “Daddy can fix it.”

When we can’t get something put together I say “Daddy can put it together correctly.”

When we can’t get something super clean, no worries, I say “Daddy can get that super clean.”

I may say this a little too often because if Corbin even senses that I’m faltering at a task he says “Daddy can (fill in the blank)….”  Haha!  Well at least the pressure is off me to do it all:)

Thanks Daddy for picking up the slack;)

It Can Tear A Family Apart

Well it has begun.  That time of year that can only bring heartache, tension, tears, and anguish to a family…March Madness.

Chris’ side of the family always does a family bracket tournament because it’s “fun”.  But is it really fun?  Yes, if you are the winner!  And that’s why this tradition has continued because each year is a fresh year and everyone in the family thinks that this is the year that they will win.

But each year 5 people are disappointed and  only 1  person becomes a winner (and instantly the most annoying person to be around for months because this family is not afraid to flaunt their wins…I love it. :)

Have I been the winner? Not yet.

Do I feel like each year I will win?  Maybe:)

Would I be annoying if I did win? Of course not;)

Does anyone else have a month of heartache and tears to survive through because of March Madness?

Picnic in the Park

This week the temperatures have been divine!  Spring is showing itself and I felt that Corbin and I must take advantage.

So we had a little picnic in the park…ghetto style.

WP_000150

That’s right, I popped open the hatch of the car and we sat in the back and dined on cheese sandwiches, yogurt, oranges, and veggie puffs.  Really, try to hold back the jealousy on our gourmet meal!

Then it was out to the park.  We started with the usual suspects…slide and swing.

WP_000152WP_000156

Next, Corbin tried out the sand area.  However, he quickly remembered that he does not like to get dirt on his hands…yuck!

WP_000166WP_000157

Then he tried climbing the little “rock” wall.  It was around late fall since we’ve been to this playground and he could not even begin to do this himself.   But now, with a little coaching (from rock climbing expert Mom) Corbin scaled the wall with little assistance!

WP_000154WP_000155

Finally, before leaving, he had to declare the playground his territory and triumphantly show his victorious win.

After that we both took naps:)

Yea for spring weather which brings picnics and parks!

Not From Me…

Corbin has been saying some “gems” lately and all I know is he certainly did NOT learn them at home;)

Here are some precious words from our precious child:

“shoot, shoot, shoot” -- I guess I say that a lot.  Umm, it could be worse.

“all done”  -- This is said after every song, every long pause, or after a prayer at church…super!

“big girl” --  Chris will say this to me, in jest, if I’m being a baby about something (which I’m sure is very rare for me:) and apparently Corbin has decided to pick up the phrase…yea.

“no help” -- Ok mister (almost) 2 year old.  Momma’s help is already unwanted, however he conveniently wants my help when it’s time to clean up from playing. Hmm…

“park it” --  Honestly I have no idea where he got this from because I don’t think I say this, but he got it somewhere.  Anytime I’m in a parking lot looking for a space he yells “park it!”.  It’s both comical and slightly annoying.

“check out?” – From almost the beginning of a grocery store shopping trip to the end, every time I put something in the cart Corbin will ask this question and I usually have to respond with “not yet”, and this elicits great disappointment.

This is just the tip of the iceberg from what I am sure I will be hearing from Corbin in the future and frankly that scares me to death!  Oh yes the phrase is true: Kids say the darndest things.

The penguin sign at the zoo makes for a great measure of growth!

I think it’s safe to say that Corbin is taller than an Emperor Penguin…what a relief.  Check that one off the life list of worries;)

“Crafty” Creation Calamity

We had an empty diaper box laying around the house and Corbin was done playing with it.  So I was going to recycle it when an “crafty” inspiration struck.

Now if you know me, “crafty” inspirations NEVER hit and when you read what I did I doubt you will even classify this as crafty or an inspiration, but for me it was both.

As I was picking up the box I envisioned in my head that I could create a tunnel out of the box.  Corbin loves tunnels and I was sure that the minutes I spent creating this little masterpiece would be enjoyed and lovingly played with for hours.

So I went to work cutting and taping together a little tunnel.

I then proudly presented by “crafty” gift of love to my child.  I watched as he inspected the tunnel and then pushed his truck through.  He had a full minute of play when he then decided to be a boy.

IMG_3662IMG_3684IMG_3677

He tried to crawl through it.

IMG_3669IMG_3668

He tried to sit on top of it.

IMG_3671

And then he just picked it up and went Godzilla on me.  The tunnel was thrown on the ground multiple times and Corbin seemed to revel in the destruction.

IMG_3665IMG_3666IMG_3670

I watched in horrified terror as my child destroyed my “crafty” gift of love.  My affection was stomped on, my giving was thrown in my face, my love rejected….too dramatic?  Well ok, maybe it is, but for this momma who isn’t crafty and doesn’t make things very often I was heartbroken to see my creation treated in such a manner. He’s almost two years old, doesn’t he understand? ;)

Oh well, this whole incident just validated my desire to remain uncrafty.  Even if “crafty” means spending four minutes with a box and a pair of scissors…I’m done, I’m retiring even that much of an effort;)

A Sprinkle

My mom and I threw a baby shower for a dear friend .  She has been a friend since kindergarten, through middle school, high school, then we became college roommates, and we are still wonderful friends today.

IMG_3741

This was more of a “sprinkle” shower for baby number two.  The first one was a boy and now the second is a girl, so pink NEEDED to be added to the household and that’s what this shower did:)

Gifts were opened, food was eaten, talking is always involved, and then our one activity was decorating onesies for the soon to come baby girl.

IMG_3746IMG_3721

This was a fun activity!  I was SO impressed with all the craftiness this group of ladies brought to the table.

IMG_3742

All we gave them were scraps of fabric, fabric glue, and a few cookie cutters/shapes if they wanted to trace anything.  But most of them struck out on their own and created some really cute works of art.

The day was super fun and the momma and baby girl were showered with tons of love and pink!
