Must Read–Ida B.

I just finished a great book!  Yes, it’s a children’s book, probably at a 3rd to 5th grade reading level, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be a great book for adults too!

I would encourage children and adults alike to check out this great read.

Ida B by Katherine Hannigan, is about a girl, Ida, who finds out her mom has cancer which changes her world.  She has some big feelings that she isn’t sure how to handle and the book is about how she deals with it all.

Ida is a character you will fall in love with!  The writer has given her a witty, bright, and energetic personality that is fun to read.  Ida is full of delightful sayings and one liners that are sure to put a smile on your face.

This book is funny, entertaining, poignant, and actually thought provoking.  It reminded me to be careful in not judging other people’s actions.  You never know what is happening in their lives and they may be hurting so much they just don’t know how to deal with it all, like little Ida B.

I really do hope you will check out this book and let me know what you think!  It’s a great read and will be well worth your time…even if it is a kids book:)

2 Year Check Up

At Corbin’s two year check up we learned a few things.

1) He is 34.8 inches long (58% percentile) and he weighs a whopping 25.8 lbs (37% percentile).  Then we get to his head circumference - 19.8 inches (93% percentile) - so he really sprang up in the percentile bracket there.  As I’m typing out these numbers and percentiles it would almost seem Corbin is designed much like a bobble head doll…poor guy.  At least he doesn’t look like one…I don’t think;)

2) Corbin is blessed beyond belief with two parents who suffer terribly with seasonal allergies.  At this stage of life he’s already struggling with them himself.  The doctor said that he has an “allergy” nose…what!?!  She went into specific terminology and a description but I really can’t recall what that all was and I just retained the allergy nose part.  So, he’s starting on children’s Zyrtec soon (as needed).

3) Finally, because of all the drainage from the allergies he has an ear infection.  So the kiddo is on antibiotics.  Unfortunately, because he had an elevated temperature due to the infection (and if we had not had this appointment already scheduled I was going to take him anyway because I could tell he wasn’t feeling well) his 2-year shots were delayed.  But don’t worry, we’ll be back in two weeks to have shots and then check up on how the allergy meds are working.  Corbin is super excited about that;)

Ahh, sweet boy, that’s you, so far, at two in a nutshell:)

Back At It…

So after a glorious two weeks of rest from the completion of P90X Chris and I have started our morning workouts again.

Now the alarm goes off a little bit later, 5:20 am, and we drag ourselves out of bed to do Insanity.

It’s aptly named!  I heard so much talk about how P90X was so tough and it was going to be so hard…umm, no it wasn’t really that bad.  What people should be talking about is Insanity.  Because it is tough!

The program is about 40 minutes long each day and is focused on cardio.  What makes it so challenging is the pace.  The individual exercises themselves are not complicated.  It’s the speed and intensity at which they are done.

This morning we started off with a warm up that lasted about 10 minutes.  In your mind you’re thinking “warm up, that’s the easy part.”  Oh. My. Word.  I thought I was going to die.  It was nonstop, fast paced, push yourself as hard as you can for 10 minutes.  It was the craziest warm up I’ve ever had.  Then throughout the workouts you do intervals that last several minutes.  After each set of three intervals you get ONE minute for a drink and “rest” time.  That’s it…there is not a lot of stopping in this video.  You are going.  Oh, and during the “rest” the instructor is telling you what you’re going to be doing next so as soon as the minute is up it’s “go” time.  There is no wasting time with explanations…rats!

It’s a 60 day program, so it will be interesting to see how I’m liking it as we progress.

If you are looking for a TOUGH cardio workout I would already recommend trying out Insanity.

Birthday Parties

A 2nd birthday can not come and go without a party…or two!

For our little guy trucks was a natural theme.  Corbin loves “big trucks”.  So with the help of Pinterest I threw together a few ideas to help Corbin celebrate becoming two.

On Friday, Corbin partied with some of his little friends at our house.

The kiddos played, did a sticker activity, and ate snacks while the moms had fun chit chatting.

(And of course while all this was happening I got limited amounts of pictures!  One mom remarked that we all need personal photographers and that’s SO true.  It’s hard to be involved with what’s going on and take pictures.)

Then on Saturday we had a big family party.  We opted to host the party at my parents’ house for more space since the weather forecast was rain.  And it was…rainy with the threat of tornados and massive storms.

However, we were still able to get in a good party before the weather forced people to flee for cover.

So, here are a few picture highlights from the party.  Again, we had a truck/construction theme.  All the tables were covered to look like a road, a few cones were placed in the center with balloons, and then Chris and I created a “cakescape”.

Once the party got rolling Corbin had the opportunity to open gifts.  He was very excited and enjoyed each one of them.  After each gift he would ask so nicely to play with them, but of course we had to move on so we said later and he would just look sad, until the next gift was placed in front of him:)

The evening ended with food, cake, and tornado warnings:)  It was a great birthday despite the weather.  We had a wonderful time celebrating Corbin’s big second birthday with so many people who love and care for him.

Now the parties are over and we start life with a two year old.  What will the year bring…will it be the terrible or terrific twos?  I’m guessing with this little guy it’s sure to be nothing but terrific;)

I’m Back

It’s been awhile since I’ve taken over the computer, but while Mom is elsewhere in the house and Dad is working I thought it would be a good time.  This blog is mostly about me (yes, I read it) but it does not very often have my viewpoint of life.  So this is me, Corbin, here to give you my perspective of things.

IMG_3909

Umm, now what to say.  I guess after my intro I don’t have much of an opinion on anything.  Things are good, I’m having a fun…

IMG_3890IMG_3891IMG_3892

I did have an interesting experience today.  I took my fist swim lessons!  I love to swim.  I met Emily.  She’s the only other person in my class.  The problem was she’d been there before and taken the lessons before.  She was a pro!  I have some work to do, but I’m pretty sure I can catch up to all the kicking and bubble blowing she’s doing. IMG_3899

In the lesson we sang songs, practiced kicking, blew bubbles, Mom caught me when I jumped in, and I used my arms to reach for a ducky (which I loved!)  Oh, that ducky was awesome and I really really wanted him to come home with me, but nope, it didn’t happen.  Don’t worry I let my feelings on the matter be known.  I always let my feelings be known, otherwise how would anyone know what I wanted?  It makes perfect sense to me.

Anyway, swim lessons where great and I’m excited to go back. I don’t really have anything else to say.  I think mom has been pretty accurate on her blog reporting of my life, but I’m monitoring this site closely so if she gets out of hand I’ll be here to set the record straight.
