Whirl Wind Week

Last Monday and Tuesday I took a quick girl’s trip with my life long friend (and I literally mean life long…since kindergarten and even roomed together in college)!

We had such a great time shopping, eating, watching a movie (Age of Adeline which is great!) and did I mention shopping!

One of my most anticipated stops was IKEA.  I had never had the opportunity to shop one before and this was my chance.  It did not disappoint!

Five hours later and a few purchases later we finally left the store.

On Wednesday I did my last open check out at school.  While I was helping students and hanging out with them Corbin was in my office setting up a “laser defense” system with my yardsticks.

On Thursday we finished swim lessons for the summer.  We did one month of lessons and Corbin would still be going if we could.  He loved them!

After swim lessons we met Grandma Tammy for some more water fun.  Those two splish-splashed around and came up with lots of ways to entertain themselves in the water.

I did the lazy river and read by the pool, it was glorious.

Then on Friday Corbin and I jumped in the car and headed to the lake for a few days.  This is the absolute best summer view in my opinion.  I love the lake!

Corbin took Beary on his FIRST boat ride.  And because safety is important Corbin shared his life jacket.  (I about died…too cute!)

This was Corbin’s last minute pep talk, instructions, and giggles of excitment to Beary.  Oh and yes Corbs is in his PJs.  This was an early Saturday morning boat ride.

Here we are being told that they were ready to go.

Beary was not the only one to experience a first.  Corbin was introduced to the card game Uno over the weekend.  People, we now have an Uno addict!

To round off the weekend, on Sunday, we celebrated my nephew’s 2nd birthday.  The kids played on a water inflatable and ate pizza.  It was a nice way to end a busy, but fun filled week.

2015 Family Gathering

We had a small family reunion this weekend.

Taking pictures is an annual must do event.  Chris has become the designated cameraman.

Here’s my goofy little family doing a test picture.  Corbin loves my sunglasses and he looks pretty darn cute in themSmile

Here’s the different families represented this year.  We had a smaller than usual turn out due to conflicting commitments, but it was still fun to gather and catch up.

Lots of chit chat and reminiscing…isn’t that what a reunion is for?

I had a little buddy sticking close by me much of the day which was just fine with me!

I was dreaming of the taco bar we were about to descend on.  Doesn’t everyone look that dreamy about tacos and all the toppingsWinking smile

We talked a lot, ate a lot, and the boys played in the water a lot.  So all in all it was a good time.  2015 family reunion in the books.

Children’s Museum

A rainy day at the lake = fun ideas from Grandma and Grandpa!

So, Corbin and I were at the lake this weekend, but going out was prohibited by the multiple rain showers and downpours happening.  But not to worry because the grandparents had a plan…the Children’s Museum in Topeka!

It was a total hit!  There were so many things to do, build, and create there.  We all enjoyed watching Corbin!

Here we are making music (and I use that term loosely) in the music garden.

These tubes had air flowing through so the balls would stay up.  But, I liked that you could build and change the tube configurations which then in turn would change how the ball acted.  We all had fun playing with this.

We checked out the car above and below.  (The below part, where Corbin slide under the car, was not his strong suit.  It really took him some effort to figure out how to lay on it slide under, and get under the car.  So maybe mechanic is not so much in his future.)

This was my personal favorite.  A magnetic board with a variety of pipes and tubes that could be connected and moved around to make a path for the ball to go down.  Mom, Dad, and I made a pretty great one if I do say so myself.

There was a glass cased little building and the kiddos got to paint the windows.  It was a fun and cute idea.

Here’s the light table.  The blocks had different colored inserts and looked pretty sitting on top of the table.  Someone from our group, she will not be named, really enjoyed creating pictures with the blocks and even began taking blocks from the child…Grandma;)

We had a great time exploring the children’s museum.  Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Legos and Logic

Something that Corbin likes to do is put together Lego sets.  He likes to follow the directions and I like that there are directions that actually make something at the end.

My free build with Legos always turns into a rectangular house…boring!  So, these sets have helped us practice reading directions, following sequence of steps, and understanding different ways to build.

We were at the library the other day and I saw this logic puzzle book.  Flipping through it I knew that this was not an activity for Corbin and I, but it was perfect for Corbin and Chris.  So I checked it out.

I have a limited mathematical mind.  It’s just not my strong suit, but not to worry I have many others;)

Corbin and Chris sat down one evening and they both enjoyed puzzling over the problems together.  Chris guided Corbin along and he loved it!

I probably should try some of those problems by myself so I can grow in the area of math.  Good idea, but probably won’t happen.  That just sounds like torture.  Plus the book has the answers in the back and I’m weak.  I look after about 2 minutes!

Logic and Legos have been happening around here this week.
