Summer Days

Our summer day are flying by!  We have swim lessons all through the month of June, daily trips to our neighborhood pool, weekends at the lake, and running around town doing errands have filled out time.

These days, when we are out and about, Corbin’s two friends, Beary and Ankly, are with us.

Yes, they are buckled up…safety first!

Here’s what our daily trip to the neighborhood pool looks like.  Corbin and I swim for a bit and then he goes out and jumps in…repeat hundreds of times.

Swim lessons are a highlight of Corbin’s day.  He loves them!

So, I have yet to remember to take pictures at the lake this year.  But, I should not have worried because Corbin offered to draw pictures of our weekend lake trips for me.  That was thoughtful!

And now all 3 of us are in the water.  (Corbin wanted it to be noted that Grandma was in the boat, but he only drew the back of the boat which is why she is not seen.)

Well, the sunshine calls and we are off to the library, swim lessons, and my bible study tonight.  Perhaps I’ll come back with some actual lake photographs next week. Until then enjoy Corbin’s drawings!

Rainy Days Are Here to Stay..For Awhile

The start of our summer vacation has been rainy, but whenever there’s been a break in the weather we’ve been going outside to enjoy the nice temperatures.

One rainy morning we pulled out a birthday gift.  It was an airplane that you paint and put together.  Corbin had a blast painting it and getting messy always helps to add to the appeal.

In between rain showers our family went out for a jog/walk.  We took the stroller, but Corbin decided that he wanted to join us in running. 

Chris and Corbin ventured out to the zoo one rainy morning to visit a new exhibit.  I sat this one out.  The rain never let up that morning and they were out in downpours and drizzle. No thanks!  I enjoyed my time at home doing some chores, reading a book, and cuddled up with a cup of coffee.

Despite the very rainy month we’ve had Corbin did not have one single soccer game cancelled.  His final game was last weekend and it was by far the worst weather we’ve had to sit in. 

It was cold and drizzly, but the game went on…for about 40 minutes.  Then it was called off due to the impending storm.  Corbin was sad to see soccer end. He’s eagerly anticipating the fall season!

I’m certainly thankful for the rain, but I’m also ready for the sunshiny days of summer!  (Corbin already wants to jump into the pool, but it’s not heated, and I have one word for that “BRRRR!!)

We have one week left of preschool and then on to Kindergarten.  So here are all of the portraits Corbin took during his time at preschool.

I will have to say I’m going to miss these PreK pictures.  The company that comes to their school to take these do an amazing job for school pictures!

Do you have a favorite?

Do you think he’s changed much?

I love the first fall and last spring pictures.  They are all great, but those steal my heart.

I don’t think he’s changed a lot, but you can definitely tell he looks like a little boy by the last pictures and lost what little “baby” look he had left at the beginning.

Lost It

The big event happened this afternoon!

Corbin lost his FIRST tooth.

It was so loose he was just wiggling it with his tongue and out it fell. 

For awhile he was a little weirded out by the gap he had in his mouth, but he soon became used to it and every thing’s good.

Now we are awaiting to see if the tooth fairy will come tonight!  (I heard she probably will come and most likely leave $1.00…but that’s just hearsay.)

Late Night

Friday Corbin had a friend over to play.  These boys cracked me up!  They were nonstop balls of energy, so much fun!

Then late Friday afternoon Chris and I dropped Corbin off with the grandparents and headed up to see Kati.

Kati joined a college improv group this year and we had yet to make it up to watch a performance.  So, this was the night we were going.

People, it STARTED at 8:00! 

We made our 2 hour drive in good time and stopped for supper.  And then headed over to the theater.  I had no idea what to expect.  I was blown away by the talent and creativity of this group.

It was an hour long show with multiple sets of skits like SNL.

 

We really enjoyed going and loved surprising Kati with our appearance.

After the show ended we grabbed some ice cream and had a chance to chit chat.  But by the time 10:15 rolled around we knew we needed to hit the road.

With pop in hand, Chris and I made the 2.5 hour drive home and fell into bed exhausted.  We are too old for late nights! 

The rest of the weekend was filled with soccer and mother’s day fun.

Here are some questions Corbin filled out about me at school.

Ants in my…

Ants in my…house! 

We have an ant farm.

Correction: Corbin has an ant farm that he got for his birthday and his live ants arrived today.

There was an air of frenzy and excitement that was palpable as we were preparing the ant farm.  Corbin had been waiting for weeks for these ants to arrive and he was beyond happy when they came.

The ant farm had to be prepared before the army of insects could live there.

There’s a tiny slot at the top where the sand had to be meticulously poured.  It felt like it was one grain at a time going in; which is why Corbin and Daddy were doing this part.

While the sand was being poured the ants were chilling out (literally) in the refrigerator.  This puts the ants into a calm state so that they were easily poured into their new home.

Corbin is obviously thrilled to be getting them out.

Here go the ants into the farm…. 

and there went some ants out of the farm.

If you think the slot was tiny for sand, it was obviously a bit more difficult to pour the ants in without some spillage. 

Needless to say, I just stared at the ants laying on my counter knowing I was NOT going to scoop them up.  That’s again why Daddy was on the job

Then we sat and watched them as they woke up from their fridge induced coma. 

Corbin would announce when an ant was doing the “shiver wake up dance”. 

Pretty soon they were up staggering around and exploring their new home.

It was fascinating watching them work.

Today, they have made two tunnels and carried sand up to the top part of their farm. 

I know you are on the edge of your seats so I’ll be updating you with pictures of the changes every now and then.

Now don’t think this ant farming business is all fun and games.  These ants have to be watered every 2 days with a few drops of water AND have to be fed weekly 2-3 pinhead sized pieces of whatever food is laying around.  I know, it’s more work than you thought, isn’t it?  Just keep that in mind before you run out and get your own

A First Time for Everything

This weekend held a few firsts:

1) We participated in a family servant event.  Our church sponsors a neighboring school and we went there Saturday morning and worked on their playground, painted signs, planted some flowers and shrubs, and hung poster strips.

Chris, Corbin, and I were assigned to work outside on the playground to pick up trash and put sand onto their playground areas.  I’m not used to spending hours with a shovel and a rake and I was ready by the end of the morning to be done

Corbin did a super great job of helping out with his little shovel.  He is excited for the kids to see his work.  Corbin thinks they will really love it!

2) Then that afternoon we had another soccer game.  Corbin scored 3 goals!  Scoring that many was a first!  He loves playing soccer.  It is such a joy to watch your child do something they enjoy.

3) And our final first this weekend….a LOOSE TOOTH!!!!  What the what!?!?!

Sunday morning Corbin came and showed me his wiggly tooth and I could not have been more surprised.  It seriously shocked me.  I was not prepared for this big milestone.  Just another sign that this little boy is growing up!

Which leads me to a question…how much does the tooth fairy pay at your house?
