Corbin loves a tool puzzle book he got for his birthday. He often pretends to be working with his tools.
At first I had to show him how to use each tool. Which is a tad bit scary because I don’t use tools. But luckily, most of them are pretty basic so I think I did ok in showing him the fundamentals.
“Mom…mom…painting the carpet is ok, right?”
“Squeaky floors? Don’t worry, I can fix it!”
“What? I’m supposed to be holding the handle not the blade? Umm, no I think I’m doing this right.”
I have looked back on my blog searching for posts about certain milestones and trying to find general information about Corbin’s vocabulary, activities, abilities in his first two years of life. Ooops! Many of these somehow didn’t find a way into the blog. I didn’t really keep a baby book for him either, so nothing is recorded there. Another oops!
Anyone see mother of the year award coming my way soon? ;)
I have a hard time deciding what to blog about because it often feels so inconsequential, mundane, and normal at the time. But then when a few years have passed and I’m trying to remember what Corbin was saying at 15 months, what his first words were, or what he was interested in then it seems more important. So I’m seeing that at the time such information may not be important, but in the future I might like to have it.
In keeping with my new insight that even if I think something is not very important but I feel even the slightest hint that I should blog about it, then I should blog it.
Sorry Corbin, Momma was slow on the get go and I don’t have many details on your first two years of life. But we do know that you talk, walk, and NOW OFFICIALLY you are FULLY potty trained!
Corbin has been accident free for a few weeks and I feel confident that I can announce he can do everything (pee and poop) on the potty!! Praise Jesus!
However, as soon as I typed that last paragraph I am feeling afraid that I have just jinxed this new found skill….I’m sure he’ll be fine:)
So, loooong post short….Corbin is going on the potty.
First words, singing the ABCs, counting, recognizing and naming shapes….nope none of those milestones made it on the blog, but potty training: got it! I’m sure Corbin will be thrilled to know all about this in the future:)
Brent, April, and Collin came down for a visit last weekend. While the girls went shopping the boys stayed home. Here’s Uncle Brent with Corbin and Collin.
A similar situation played out last year, May 2011. What do you think, has a year changed them?
Corbin has become his own personal planner. He will often outline a series of events that will happen and before any confirmation is given from any adult he says “that works!”. Umm, really? Because sometimes everything on the plan does NOT work for me:)
For example Corbin might say:
Corbin: “Let’s play trains, then watch tv, and go play outside…that works!”
Me: “Let’s play trains and then take a nap…now THAT works.”
Or Corbin might say…
Corbin: “First take a bath, then read books, then play, then go to bed…that works!”
Me: “Try another plan.”
But sometimes he does have a plan that works perfectly and we can all jump aboard and say “that works!”.
I have to give him credit for his authoritative, take charge attitude in creating a plan. This is one momma who likes a plan…just not always Corbin’s plans:)
We had a laid back 4th with a barbeque, fireworks, and friends. It was Corbin’s first experience with smoke bombs, poppers, and sparklers. He seemed to enjoy them all!
I had an extra pie crust in the fridge and decided to pull it out along with some cookie cutters for Corbin to play with.
He had a great time playing with the dough.
And experiencing all that cookie cutters could do. They were a cooking tool, a bracelet, glasses, a hat, and a tower Who knew cookie cutters were such a versatile tool!
He also came up with a great idea that I had not planned on, but loved. (Of course I had put the camera away so I could not capture his brilliance;) Corbin laid out his pie dough shapes and then matched them up with the cookie cutter. Great idea!
This was a fun and easy activity to do inside while the temperatures outside are soaring!
