Late Breaking News–Corbin Can Sit Up

I set up this blog to record important events, funny happenings, and general information about Corbin.  Because scrapbooking is not my thing, this blog was going to be my “thing”.  Corbin’s poor baby book doesn’t even have one little picture in it and the little writing I did do I had to scribble out because I messed up.  I hate scribbles…why did I write in pen!

To be frankly honest, I’m too scared to enter into that book again.  Who knew a baby book was going to be a little too much like scrapbooking…yuck!  My type A personality just doesn’t it have it in me.

I often will write down blog ideas if I don’t have the time to post them right then.  However, the flaw in this is that I sometimes forget to look at the list of ideas and topics to blog about.  Therefore, important things do not get posted…ooops!

To my dismay, as I was looking back over a list of post ideas I saw listed there: Corbin sitting up.  I did a double take, certain that I had posted something about this.  But, upon closer inspection of my older posts I do not have anything about this accomplishment.

How many “bad mom” awards can I win!  Seriously people…I apologize for this late breaking news, but here it is…Corbin can sit up on his own very well.  He has been doing this for about a month.  That’s right.  A whole month has gone by without my notice of this oversight, yikes!

I remembered I had taken a picture of Corbin sitting up on his own for a post about him sitting up (that never happened at the time:), but thanks to technology this picture has the date.  So I can accurately tell you that Corbin was officially sitting well in the middle of September.  (These pictures were taken on the 19th.)

Poor Corbin, his face is showing outrage.  It’s as if he knew I would forget to post his big accomplishment.  And I’m getting an “Oh how could you mama! You forgot?” Maybe my child has special abilities to for see the future;)

So, there it is, Corbin’s sitting.  I’m sure most of you knew that already, but if you hadn’t there you go, late breaking news to take with you throughout the day:)

Party Time

Corbin attended his first birthday party this weekend.  One of our friend’s little girl turned one year old.  They had an adorable monkey themed party out at the park.

As Corbin is only 6 months off from turning one I was taking notes and tips on how to throw a party for a one year old.

The best takeaway idea I got was to have the party outside.  The great outdoors provides such a nice setting for cake messes, punch spills, and kids to run around.

Corbin went shopping with me at Target and helped pick out a cute little sweater dress.  That boy has good taste!

Here’s the birthday girl with her parents while we sang happy birthday.

We tried to get a picture with Corbin and the birthday girl, but he really just wanted the cake.  I don’t blame him…it was yummy!

Corbin had a great time at the party and can’t wait for his own!

Buhler Frolic

This weekend we traveled to the lovely town of Buhler to join in on some small town fun.

First up: Friday night football. Buhler is an undefeated team, so the atmosphere was filled with excitement throughout this close game. To top it off, it was homecoming so a win was necessary.  Thankfully, Buhler did end up being victorious.

Our main reason for going, besides to eat some great concession food, and sit out in the beautiful weather, was to see Chris’ sister march in the band.  She is a senior (tear, tear, I can not believe that!) and we want to make sure and soak up all of her last high school activities before she graduates.

Here’s Katie marching (this was not a “Katie approved” picture to post, but I’m posting it anyway because I feel it is relevant to what I’m talking about:)  The band sounded and looked really wonderful. It was definitely fun to watch.

Corbin loved being at the game with grandma.  He was interested in everything around him.

The next day, we again were at Buhler for the frolic!  The day started off with a rousing parade and ended with Katie’s performance in Buhler Singers.

I really love small towns.  Where else will you find the main street in town blocked off and free of traffic for the whole day and people just wandering around eating, shopping, and watching the local entertainment.  What fun!

Here Corbin was intently watching the tractors. He really took everything in at the parade.

The day ended with the Buhler Singers.  The group did a great job.  Here Katie is singing her stellar solo. She was awesome!

Fun was had by all at the Buhler Frolic.

Weekend Away

Chris and I took our first weekend away, without Corbin, since he was born.

We had a great time in Kansas City.  We spent time eating, shopping, and watching the Chiefs game. And wait for it….they actually won!

While we were living it up in KC;) Corbin spent the weekend at my parent’s house having a marvelous time!

Oops

Baby proofing our house might have to start a little earlier than I thought.

I put Corbin in his bumbo seat to play while I was in the kitchen washing bottles.  I came back and this is what I found Corbin into.  (Even at 5 months when they are too quiet it probably means they are doing something they shouldn’t be.)

Yum, the computer cord.”

IMG_1381

“What?  I wasn’t supposed to put that in my mouth?”

IMG_1383

“Oh, well in that case…”

IMG_1385

“I was really just reaching back here to play with my other toys. The cord just landed here on its own.

IMG_1386

“See mom, just playing with my blocks.”

IMG_1384

“You really need to look into that jumping cord.  It could be dangerous.  Love you!”

Corbin’s Career

Corbin decided today on a future career. I told him it might be a bit early to make a final decision, but for now he feels fairly certain he wants to be a sailor.

So, he has started preparing himself for this future endeavor.

He is reading all about the sea and boats.

IMG_1341

Corbin has also enlisted two of his favorite buddies to help him out: Mr. Puddles the dog and Flappy the bird. I don’t know if they are as excited as Corbin.

IMG_1345

These days Corbin just sits around and daydreams about life on the high seas.

Well luckily Corbin has a few years and then college to attend before he heads off for his life at sea. And who knows, by then he might have changed his mind….let’s hope!

5 months

Corbin is 5 months old today.

Wow, hard to believe he’s been around in our family for almost half a year.

Needless to say he has changed and grown as babies tend to do.

Lately, his newest accomplishments include eating solid foods, getting two bottom teeth, sitting up well with a little assistance, and rolling over consistently one way from his stomach to his back.
