This Week…

Our church’s Wednesday night program went bowling. Corbin had such a great time. He is very proud that he made a strike and a few spares.

Kindergarten science fair was also this week.  Corbin used his snap circuits to create a circuit that conducted electricity through water. Parents went up for moral support and guidance as their child shared.

Friday night was beautiful, so we ended the week at the park with friends.  It was great and relaxing. Except for that one part where Corbin legitimately got his arm stuck in between some equipment.

Corbin stayed mostly calm but was worried we would have to cut his arm off. I told him that wasn’t going to be our first option, but it might happenWinking smile. No, I didn’t! I said that his arm was not going to get cut off, but boy was Corbin concerned.

No worries, the dads lubed his up arm with hand sanitizer and slid his arm out. Always fun adventures with kids!

Of course we had the usual soccer game. Corbin had some awesome defensive moves. I love to watch his games. The kids are still having fun and loving the game.

Finally, we ended the week at church. As we were waiting for Dad to sing in choir at the beginning of 2nd service (we all went to 1st service) Corbin hung out with some of his besties at church.

They are all as cute and ornery as they look!

Art Party

For Corbin’s 6th birthday party we hosted an art party.  Corbin loves to draw, paint, and build so it was the perfect theme for this year.

The kiddos started at the table with a birthday coloring book and sticker art.  I always like to have an activity that keeps them occupied and all in one place until everyone arrives.

Then we sang “Happy Birthday” and each kid decorated their own cupcake with an assortment of candies, gel frosting, and sprinkles.  Wow, there were some interesting creations on that one!Smile

and there he goes! Officially 6 now that he has blown out his candle.

We stayed at the table and he opened his gifts.  All the gifts were awesome and he was a very excited boy. Here’s just a few pictures from books, to Royals gear, to a Rubik’s cube.

Then we all headed down to start gettin’ our art on! I explained each area’s activity and then they were free to explore and create.

Creating their own monsters were a hit:

Who doesn’t like a good Play-Doh station and tangram pictures?

Below the kids are decorating bug jars that we later took outside. Several kiddos took home a multitude of roly polies in their jar; sorry parents (and roly polies)!

What can you make with beads and pipe cleaners? These kids were creative! We had tiara’s, bracelets, snakes, and glasses.  It was fun to see their ideas come to life.

We also had a free draw area with big paper and markers (no pictures of that) and a bar.  What birthday party is complete without a bar, especially for 6 year oldsWinking smile

A painting bar that is.  The kids hopped up into a chair, requested their paint colors and painted away on their canvases.  This was definitely my favorite station!

I really liked a few things with this party. One, the adults (which were all of my family and Chris’s) were interacting with the kids and having fun.

Two, seeing the kids use their imaginations and creativity is always enjoyable for me.

Kids are so bold and unafraid of making “mistakes”. They would sit down and just start creating. There was no hesitancy or wondering what they would do. They just did whatever popped into their minds and loved it.

We all had a great time celebrating Corbin’s 6th birthday!

Family Fun Night

We had our first experience with family fun night at Corbin’s school.  Chris was in California for work so Grandpa Miller went with us.

I didn’t know what to expect, but next year I’ll know the reality of Family Fun Night.  It’s really kids night of fun with parents being pulled aroundWinking smile

But, nevertheless, I did enjoy myself until the end and then momma’s nerves were shot and I was in need of earplugs and a margarita.

Corbin’s favorite activity was the inflatable obstacle course.  He loved that thing.  So Grandpa and I stood watching him stand in line for the inflatable and then we stood and watched him go through the course, and then we watched him go back in line….repeat that process times 100.

However, in line, there seemed to always be a friend or two of his, so it was fun to see their animated conversations and excited little faces.

This little cutie is in his class and it appears as if she is pointing out some fashion opinions about the school shirts.  Or telling Corbin which one she liked, just in case he ever wanted to buy her one Winking smile

Over the climbing wall of the inflatable…

and a fast slide to the finish.  He loved it!

Beyond the inflatable Corbin rejected most all other games that we walked by except for standing in line to get a cute balloon animal and the book walk.

Since our activities were limited (by his choice) he was determined to win a book.  That kid persevered in the book walk through at least 15 minutes of walking the circle and hoping for his number to be called.  His patience finally paid off and he came out victorious!

First school family fun night is now in the books.  We’ll be back next year and hopefully Chris will be in town and can experience this “special occasion” with us.
