Fall at the Lake

We had another great weekend celebrating fall.  This time we traveled up to my parent’s house at the lake.

We made a quick stop on our way to the lake to eat lunch with Aunt Kati.  Then we grabbed some chocolates from a local candy shop and continued on our way to the lake.  Let me just say the dark chocolate salted caramels may have been the best in my life….so good!  What a great way to start a weekend.  (I totally forgot to take any pictures until much later into our daySad smile So bummed!)

Once we got to the lake the weather was gorgeous, the leaves were brilliant colors and the company was delightful.

We decorated pumpkins,

went bug hunting,

put together a puzzle,

and even tested out the water.  Well, let me clarify that, Corbin tested out the water.  We of course were not prepared to be going into the water at the end of October, but it was 85 degrees.  Corbin just wanted to see how the water would feel.  So like all good moms, I stripped him down to his little superman undies, put on adult sized water shoes (his were at home) and let him romp about in the very chilly water (which he proclaimed as “not too bad”).  These are the memories that will be seen during his senior high school slide showsSmile

It was an awesome fall weekend at the lake!

Hayrack Rides, S’mores, and More

This weekend was packed with fall activities.

We started with a birthday party.  So this wasn’t really a fall activity.  But Corbin’s sweet friend Jaycee always has her birthday in October, so it’s a fall event for us!

She had her party at a bowling alley.  So Corbin got to bowl for the first time!

Then we headed to a friend’s house for an evening of play time for the kids, conversation for the adults, food and s’mores for all.  It was a beautiful evening to hang out.

So, I might have been too busy talking and eating to get more then this one picture…oops!

On Sunday the fun continued.  We went to church and then had our small group join us at our house for lunch and pumpkin decorating.

Then we all packed up and headed to a farm for a whole church hayrack ride.  The kids played some more, we all ate some more, and hopped aboard the tractor and wagon for a ride.

Lately…

Here are a few things we’ve been up to lately…

We spent a wonderful afternoon hanging with Cousin Blake and Cole.  Those three boys are super cute together.  Blake and Corbin play well together while Cole just tags along and tries to keep up.

I was able to snap this picture of them all being still because we were watching a TV show before we headed out.

Do not underestimate the power of a book store.  We spent time at Barnes and Nobles looking at books and playing with the train set.

They had this head cut out from one of my favorite picture books, The Day the Crayons Quit.  If you haven’t read it go check it out.  It’s super cute and you and your kids (of any age) will love it.  And let’s face it, if you’re child is anything like mine, we read the same book multiple times, so it’s nice to actually really like the book you’re reading.

On the bargain book shelf I spied a great book all about dinosaurs.  This is Corbin’s current favorite obsessions and since we didn’t have any dino books and it only cost $7 and I do LOVE books we ended our trip by buying a book. (Side note: I am aware that last sentence was entirely too long.  I intended for it to be that way…please do not edit that ChrisWinking smile)

Corbin and I are getting really spoiled on Fridays.  Chris has and will be taking several Fridays off until Thanksgiving.  He has vacation time and worked a ton on a project, so he’s taking some well deserved time to spend with us!

On Friday we headed to a local museum we had not been to before.  Although many of the exhibits were of little interest to Corbin (and really above his level ie WWII) we knew he would love the dinosaurs.

Apparently, the bear was far too life like and gave Corbin a bit of a fright.  Whew, thank goodness Daddy was there to protect us allWinking smile

This is one happy cowboy.

The Revolutionary War “states” puzzle.  (Side Note: I know they were not states yet, just colonies but it sounded better that way.  Please do not edit ChrisSmile)

There was a kid’s area where Daddy and Corbin: built a train track, put on a puppet play (Daddy was a star…he could have a future in puppeteering…don’t edit thatSmile, and played Knights and King (obviously Corbin was the King).

Saturday

We went to Whole Foods this morning and Corbin was in love!  He said he could live here.  I agree, living in a grocery story (especially Whole Foods) is not a bad idea.

After getting some groceries we sat outside.  It was a beautiful morning, jazz music played, the sun was shining without a hint of wind.  So relaxing!

As Chris and I sat in taking the serene morning Corbin hung out by the small water feature and enjoyed watching the water fountains.

We ran a few more errands and then Corbin decided it was too beautiful of a morning and he needed to go on a bike ride…agreed!

This kid is doing great on his bike.  He’s comfortable and just speeds around.  It really makes him look like such a big kid to be doing this bike thing so confidently.

What a great Saturday morning!  It’s always nice to start the weekend off so well and know that I still have the afternoon and tomorrow before the week begins.  Yahoo!
