Must See

I had been craving a good movie to watch and finally, looking through the redbox options I found one, Saving Mr. Banks.

Saving Mr. Banks Theatrical Poster.jpg

It features Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks (one of my favorites!) and they do not disappoint.

This movie is based off the true story of the author of Mary Poppins and the quest Walt Disney had in pursuing her in getting the rights to her book to make his movie.

It is funny, thought provoking, interesting, and has a depth and sweetness that I have not seen in a movie for awhile.

I LOVED this movie!  It is a must see and I highly recommend this movie.

Spring Painting

Yesterday afternoon was such great weather!  The temperature was just right to be out without a jacket.  The wind was low.  The sky blue and the sun shinning.

So, what do you do when it’s that nice?

Paint!

Corbin and I took to the great outdoors to paint and be inspired.  Being out in nature inspired Corbin to create an ocean painting.

So, here is the process and procedure of our afternoon paint session:

Painting the waves of the ocean…it takes great concentration.

The masterpiece is taking shape…how exciting!

An artist must stop, evaluate, and reflect on his work before continuing.

It’s the swirl and push of the brush that makes the ocean come alive in this pieceWinking smile

A Moment

I wish I could have recorded a conversation I had with Corbin today because I want to remember it word for word.

But since it’s not recorded and this conversation took place hours ago and I’m now at the ripe “old” age of 33, my memory has already started to fade and I can’t recall the exact words but I’ll do my best.  I want to record this for myself.

This afternoon we had a few errands to run and then we were headed to the park to play!  Corbs and I were both excited to be finished with our tasks and enjoy the sunshine.  However, one of our jobs was to take Daddy his laptop that he needed for an after work meeting.  All we had to do was drop it off in his car, easy peasy!

Unless, someone drives all the way to work and forgets to bring the laptop they were supposed to be dropping off, ugh!!!

I was so frustrated at myself for leaving the laptop bag on our mudroom bench.  I told Corbin the situation and that we would have to drive back home and then back to Daddy’s office.

He asked if I was frustrated with myself.  I said yes, that I was really frustrated we had to drive all the way back home and that it was going to take longer than expected.

Here’s the sweet, kind, oh so knowledgeable piece of advice I got from my 3 year old:

Mom, it’s ok.  You just need to be patient.  At school we sang a song (he proceeds to sing a ditty about the fruits of the spirit, which include patience).  When I’m frustrated I just remember to be patient.

I told him that he was right and that I needed to pray for help with having patience in this situation.

Then the moment passed and he was on to asking how fast we were going, But it was a moment that I will forever cherish.

Can I tell you how grown up this little guy is sometimes.  Seriously, he was sitting in his car seat with his little legs crossed and just talking to me so calmly and rationally about my need for patience.  His tone was so empathetic and oozed his desire to comfort me with his advice.

I so wish I could have recorded this moment.  My memory might fade about the exact words and the exact conversation, but I believe that my heart will forever remember the feeling I had from Corbin’s tone of compassion, empathy, and true concern for me.

Thank you God for my little man.

ABC Book

I found a great new book at the library, Animal ABC, by Marcus Pfister.  Each page has two rhyming sentences packed with simple, but interesting information for different animals.  From A-Z each page has a colorful illustration, two sentence description, name of the animal, and capital and lowercase letters.

I highly recommend this book for young kids and early readers.  In fact, I’m going to order one for my school library.

So, this book inspired Corbin and I to create our own ABC book.  I cut lined paper in half.  Then Corbin wrote each letter at the top, decided what to draw, and illustrated.  I then wrote the word of the item at the bottom of the page.

The creativity and thought he put into what he was going to draw that began with each letter was fun to watch.  Here’s a few examples:

Big Bed = Big Boy

Corbin got a new big boy bed!  He is in love.

Yesterday was his first night sleeping in it and he said that he was SO excited to go to sleep.

Of course, having exciting new sheets with construction vehicles making sleeping even more fun!

Corbin woke up the next morning saying it was the best bed ever.

He also decided that since he was getting to be such a big boy he needed to start learning how to do more things on his own. I got excited at this one and started suggesting he could learn how to cook, do his laundry….but he simply looked at me and said he was thinking more along the lines of getting his own water.

So I was thinking “go big or go home” and Corbin was thinking small steps to the Big Boy statues.  We’ll go with his way…for nowWinking smile
