Good Intentions

Corbin LOVES roly polys and luckily there are always some out on the driveway.  Corbin is very gentle with them.

He talks to them…

IMG_5194

Gives them directions on where to go (although he doesn’t understand why they don’t follow his guidance)…

IMG_5205

 And even dances for them.

These are some very loved roly polys.  However, I don’t think the roly polys appreciated his latest gesture of love: the house made of rocks.

When the roly polys would crawl into a crack he would place the rocks on top to give them same shade, shelter, or a bridge.

IMG_5191

Or when he saw a roly poly out in the open he would try and create a fence for them.

 IMG_5227

Those poor roly polys were crawling away from him so fast.  It was a mass exodus for the grass and to relative safety.

(This was Corbin being “sad” that he couldn’t find any more roly polys.)

By the end of Corbin’s “building” spree not a roly poly could be found.  And really, do you blame them? :)  When Corbin asked where they all went I just said they needed to rest and take a nap.  I didn’t go into the fact that the roly polys probably now needed intense therapy and ran for safety.

Ahh, sweet Corbin, he has a great heart for the roly polys, but sometimes it’s all lost in the execution.

The Park is Fun?

Corbin in underwear has made going out different.  I now always locate and know the quickest routes to bathrooms. I carry a plastic sack and extra clothing options just in case an accident should occur. And I occasionally tote around the potty chair to different events if I know a bathroom is inaccessible.

I’ve been prepared, until yesterday.

After nap we walked the few blocks down to our neighborhood park.  I thought “what fun we’ll have spending the afternoon playing!” Yeah, not so much.  Corbin got to the park and climbed to the top of the slide, sat down, and he promptly said “I have to pee.”  What!?!  Ok, so my mind goes to the easiest option for a boy: head for the trees.

Corbin slides down, we run to the trees (as we are doing this I tell him we are going to do something we do NOT usually do), and then I pull down his pants and tell him to pee.  “No, mommy, not here, on the potty.  We pee on the potty.”  Oh my goodness, I have the child who does not want to pee on the trees and who does not think this would be fun for other little boys.  Ok, I’m glad you know we pee on the potty, however let’s take a moment to side note that, although Corbin knows that he’s supposed to pee and poop on the potty, he has yet to actually poop in the potty. So really, I don’t think he should be so hard to judge me for wanting him to pee in the trees when he will poop in his pants. Just saying.

So, my only other option: run home.  And I do.  I scoop the kid up begin the trek home.  On the way, Corbin asks “Mommy what’s wrong?”  Umm, let’s see, what’s wrong?  Well, Mommy is walking/jogging a 27 pound child who could have a major bladder explosion at any time.  Yup, that could be the “problem”.

Luckily we made it home.  He peed in the potty.  And then we went back to the park.  But once we got to the park the second time, he didn’t want to be there.  Seriously, he whined about being there.  Well you can bet your last penny we were NOT leaving for awhile. I had just went through quite an ordeal to be here…we were STAYING at the park and having fun.  So he sat and cried for little while, but then he decided since he was stuck there he might as well play.

Oh my, what fun we had at the park.

Sunglasses and Whispers

We have started two new trends the last week in our house.  The first is sunglasses.  This child loves to ride in style with his sunglasses on.  Corbin can rock slightly large green sunglasses better than anyone I know:)

The second trend is whispering.  Can I get an “amen” for whispers!!  He loves to talk in whispers now.  It’s a new skill he has discovered that he can do…finally:)  In fact, on Monday we spent over half the morning in quiet hushed tones playing with cars, trucks, and animals.  Do you know how amazing this is!?!  Ahh, the power of the whisper…unfortunately, I can already tell the newness of it all is wearing off, so I’m sure whispering will be a trend of the past.  Oh well I’ll enjoy it while I can!

Sunglasses and whispers…it’s what’s going on at our house!

Potty Poem (Free Verse Style)

I know potty training.

I know potty training.                                                                   The smell of potty success, Clorox, and fresh cotton underwear straight from the dryer.

I know potty training.                                                                      The sound of hurried feet, clapping hands, and sighs.

I know potty training.                                                                   The words “uh-oh”, “I need to go”, and “poop goes in the potty not the carpet”.

I know potty training.                                                                         The sight of a liquid puddle on the floor, books strewn about the bathroom floor, and a little boy in big-boy Thomas the Train underwear.

I know potty training.

Man-Purse

We had a play date yesterday and it was fun to watch these two little guys interact.  They are becoming the best of buddies!

They both love to play with trucks and they raced around the house with the trucks, cars, and buses.

IMG_5143

But you can’t chase each other all morning.  So Corbin decided that the block bag would make a great “man-purse”.  That’s an official term, Webster’s dictionary defines a man-purse as a carrying case for men, yet similar to a large purse for women rather than a briefcase.

This is really in style and all the rage, so Corbin was just trying to get in with the trend:)  He walked around for a long time with that bag picking up little treasures to put inside.

IMG_5160

His man purse even went outside with us for a little while, but then he decided it got in the way of kicking and running (whew, daddy was relieved;).

Father’s day is coming up, maybe a man-purse is just the gift for the dad in your life.  I know Corbin and I will be checking them out for Chris;)

Underwear…that’s the downfall

Corbin is now potty trained…naked.  The boy can do it all when he’s naked.  For two days we were doing super great with the whole potty training stuff.  I should have known if it was this easy there was something wrong.

Then I found out what was wrong…it’s the underwear.

After his 100% success rate after two days of naked potty training I knew he understood the concept of what to do. Now we needed to add back the clothes. But that was my downfall!

People, I have only finished morning one of underwear potty training and am about ready to let him wear diapers for LIFE!  What’s wrong with that…??

He has peed in his underwear EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.  Oh my, I’m tired.  He’s now in a diaper taking a nap and I’m sure he should be in underwear now but I really could not risk him waking up if he were to pee in his bed.  This momma needs a nap…don’t judge;)

Oh well, we’ll keep pushing on with the underwear and see how it goes.  Maybe after nap it will just click and he’ll suddenly understand that underwear is NOT a diaper;)

Prayers and a miracle are needed right now in this house.  What are you waiting for? Pray…now…!

If the whole underwear thing doesn’t work out for Corbin then maybe a nudist colony could be an option?

Family Reunion

Our little family packed up for a long weekend and drove more hours than I like to in a car (but all went well) to go to Omaha, Nebraska for a family reunion.

We had a great time hanging with family that we don’t get to see very often.

The biggest agenda item for the weekend was an all day trip to the Omaha Zoo.  What a great zoo!  The aquarium was the crowd favorite, both young and old were fascinated with all of the underwater creatures we observed.

Also, topping the list was the train ride around the zoo.  This was Corbin’s first experience being on a train and he loved it!  It was such a thrill for him and he continues to bring it up in conversation.

There were many great exhibits and the zoo is shady and beautiful to walk around.

We had a very enjoyable weekend with family and at the zoo.  If you are looking for a small vacation destination, Omaha, Nebraska might be for you!IMG_5066
